Greetings all. Roberta and I are currently relaxing in Seattle waiting for
our boat (Sans Souci) to be shipped home from Costa Rica. It should load aboard
a giant freighter sometime next week, and in just a few weeks arrive in
Victoria Canada. Because it has taken much longer than anticipated to get the
boat out of Costa Rica, we’re planning to use a delivery crew to run the boat from Canada
north to Alaska. Roberta and I will fly to Alaska around July 9th,
and then start exploring. It will be an “interesting” trip for us,
and is somewhat of an experiment. As most of you know, I don’t fish, and
neither Roberta or I really eat fish. In spite of this, my boating friends tell
me Alaska will become our favorite cruising destination, and I hope they are
right! Regular blog updates from Alaska should start around the
second week of July. We’ll spend a few weeks exploring the area around
Juneau and Glacier Bay and then spend a month or two moseying our way south to
the Pacific NW. Over the past few weeks I’ve been working on editing
my blog updates from the Costa Rica trip into a book. If you have been reading my
blog updates, you’ve essentially already read the book. That said, there
are some cool features to the book. For instance, I added an index which breaks
everything out by the topics discussed. I also added a really nice double-page
map. The book will appear in a month on Amazon, but copies are
available now directly from the publisher. My guess is that Amazon’s
pricing will be well below the pricing from the publisher. If you decide to buy
the book, and have the patience, you may want to wait for it to show up on
Amazon. I am releasing two different versions of the book. The print
cost on the full-color version is outrageous, and this is reflected in the
price. I’ll leave it up to you as to whether or not the color version is
worth the added cost. The black and white version is essentially the same,
looks great, and is a whole lot cheaper.
Thank you. The next time I write to you will be from Alaska!
