Oops -- I forgot that part of your question.

Yes, you are right. If running on a single engine for any length of time, I'll need to lock the shaft that isn't turning. Hopefully I'll never actually have to do so. My current thinking is that I'd wrap the shaft with a towel, and then apply a huge pipe wrench. I've got a couple of big wrenches on board that should do the trick.
