My guess was if you didn't have on SSII was they are really a novelty more than nautical use. At FLIR.com they have the system I was most familiar with in the Army, truck mounted unit. Mostly used for recon or identification. I like the handheld versions or goggles. They lack the power and range of the mounted systems but for me I can use them in the woods or on the boat. I've never used the bino model but Steiner had some with a compass built in. Mike Hodges was looking for something I imagine to cut through the fog he was in(mentions it in his log of the first 2 voyages after commissioning). They will work but the manf. admits not perfect at it, but probably will allow quicker response. So many great inventions out today (AIS is one) it hard to set yourself up and not feel moderately comfortable with navigation. By the way the Hookah system is awesome. I have a Brownie onboard our 32 Whaler. The range is limited but recreational divers need to stay at the 100 mark. Ours floats on a ring and is gas. We do use tanks as well. Maybe think about mounting one in the bigger tender for reef dives or where SSII can't moor. They also are so convenient when having trouble setting the anchor, just go set it yourself. I purchased the expander set about a year after to allow 4 divers to 50-60 ft. Big hit.

I couldn't find where he talks about FLIR systems (thermal imaging).
I passed on installing a system. We had a great system on Sans Souci (our 62) but never used it. We would fire it up once in a while, to impress friends, but never used it on a regular basis. On the other hand, we had night vision binoculars, and used them frequently.

I wasnt sure if you considered it and with what looks like a plethera of cameras on your boat why you wouldn't.
