Email (a joke) received from a Nordhavn 40 owner- April 1, 2007

Ken, I thought I remembered reading your boat was being transported soon. I was googling PAE and came up with this hit today:

(what was the name of the boat your Nordhavn was being shipped on?)

Pirates hijack Transport Carrier in South China Sea

1 April 2007 - Kaohsiung (AP wire) Pirates off the coast of Viet Nam have hijacked a Panamanian-flagged ship with its 12-member crew aboard. The ship, M/V Pacific Hope, was attacked several days after departing Taiwan bound for the United States of America. This is the fourth such attack on supply vessels off the coast of the country in 20 months.

Executives of the Hau Fooked Shipping line were quoted "we are highly concerned about the safety of crew members and the vessel", Mr. Ben Hadd, the agency’s U.S. Public Relations manager said today of yesterday’s seizure. "Such acts of piracy undermine the delivery of vital goods and services and further worsen the prevailing precarious economic situation for the region and our nation."

Hau Fooked is currently in close contact with Taiwan’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG), the authorities in Kaohsiung and with the vessel’s agents, to obtain the most accurate information and to ensure the earliest release of the vessel and crew - six Taiwanese nationals, including the captain, and six midgets of unknown origin.

In 2005, after two earlier hijacks, Hau Fooked temporarily had to suspend ships transiting this area for some weeks, but since then sea deliveries have been uninterrupted. The MV Pacific Dreamer itself escaped an attempted hijack in the South China Sea last year.

There is speculation amongst shipping officials that the real target of the attack was the cargo rather than the ship itself. "Pacific Hope was transporting several luxury motor yachts manufactured by Pacific Asian Enterprises in Taiwan", said Mr. Hadd. Mr. Hadd went on to say "There is no truth to the rumor that the crew in fact mutinied and took possession of the two motor yachts out of the sheer intoxication of having them on board". We take our responsibilities seriously and wouldn't’t dream of letting our U.S.

business partners and customers down. Company officials advised they would not rest until the vessel, crew and cargo are returned.

Boy, I sure hope this wasn't your boat! Scott

PS, have a great day!
